Who we are

We are a non-partisan, citizen-led group working to protect Connecticut's waters though increased citizen engagement.  We came together in opposition to the MDC (Metropolitan District Commission) plan to sell large quantities of Connecticut water at discount rates to Niagara Water Bottling Company of California, much of it to be exported out of state. Though we started locally in Bloomfield and other Hartford area MDC towns, we now reach throughout the state  allying ourselves with multiple environmental organizations equally concerned with the misuse and protection of our water resources.

"Watch the documentary Last Oasis people. Protect our resources."

Kim Green

"We are not a small group that is protesting water bottles. We number in the thousands, including three Universities, church groups, Park and Watershed, CT Clean Water Action, Connecticut River Watershed Alliance, 15 towns, 4 ex-Mayors and numerous out of state supporters. We are on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and others. Our numbers are not increasing daily, but hourly. If Niagara, ever spoke to us, they’d know. Yes, we do not like water bottles, but even more, we do not like WATER DISCOUNTS and policy given in shady behind the scenes meetings that will encourage MORE water bottlers to come. We do not like that the MDC keeps saying ‘we have plenty of water’ when they are referring to data from the 1960’s that doesn’t include climate change. And we don’t like WHAT NIAGARA HAS DONE to other towns in lawsuits when the town's tried to stop them from taking more water than they originally planned. Frankly,Niagara, we don’t like YOU."

Karyn Cordner

"What a mistake it will be to let Niagara in to Bloomfield. Bottled water in general is such an environmentally bad thing."

Wanda Hutchinson

"So many of my friends who think of themselves as environmentalists load themselves up with bottled water before a bike ride or paddle. I don't think they know what plastic is made from or what is in that bottled water. Thank you for all the education Bloomfield Citizens." (now SaveourwaterCT!)
